Sail for Gold Wrap Up, Final Preparations, and Olympic Team Send Off Announcement

We’ve made it back home to the US for some downtime after the Sail for Gold Regatta wrapped over the weekend. We finished 12th overall in the event that was shortened due to high winds on the final two days before the Medal Races.

We are not happy with our result in this event, but we are very happy with how we sailed for the most part. This has been stated already, but it’s worth revisiting. Our boat speed and starts were good enough to put us on the podium. We made a few blunders at some turning marks that put us back in the fleet. We did a good job of fighting back in those races, but it wasn’t enough. We know that if we sail just a little bit cleaner we will be in position to podium in the Olympics.

We will have one more chance to iron out those regatta hiccups at the Coaches’ Regatta in a few weeks. Our coach, Dave Hughes, has organized a great event for us to make the final preparations we will need going into the Olympics. Racing will be in Weymouth, on the courses we will spend the most time on, from June 27th through the 30th. We’ll be sure to send along some updates.

Finally, we are thrilled to announce to our supporters the US Olympic and Paralympic Sail Teams sendoff event, “Good Luck USA,” presented by Maclaren. It is at Larchmont Yacht Club from 3-6 PM on Saturday, July 14th. All are invited to this free event. Details can be seen at the event website here. Please RSVP if you can make it. Trevor and I would be thrilled to see a big turnout from Storck Moore Sailing supporters before we leave for Weymouth for the final time.

Thanks to US Sailing Team Sperry Top-Sider, especially title sponsor Sperry Top-Sider and Gold Partners Atlantis WeatherGear and Rolex. Also a big thanks to all of our supporters.
