Princess Sofia Wrap Up and Injury Update

It’s been a week now since the fateful day on the water in Palma Bay that ended our Princess Sofia Regatta together before it began. Since then, Erik has made it home to seek medical attention, and Trevor has completed sailing the event with USSTAG teammate Peet Must.

To begin with, Erik has made it home, visited his Primary Care Physician, and received an MRI. He has multiple appointments scheduled for the next two weeks with orthopedic specialists and physical therapists. Every minute of every day has been solely focused on getting healthy as soon as possible. It has been easy to concentrate on this task during an unintended stay at home. We will see what the MRI results hold, and hope for the best.

In Palma, Trevor has had a productive week of sailing with Peet, highlighted by the exceptional coaching of Ramon Oliden, the reigning 49er World Champion coach. Ramon is considered a boat-handling guru. Most, if not all, of his ideas and approaches have been tried and tested by the World Champion and past Gold Medal team of Iker Martinez and Xabi Fernandez. He has no qualms about refining, changing, adjusting, and generally reforming the way that his subjects sail the boat. So, while the results may not show the success garnered at the event, Trevor has come away with many more tricks up his sleeve. Sailing with a different skipper, or crew, is a great way to try some new things that may prove difficult otherwise. With Ramon as coach, this could not have been planned more perfectly from that respect.

For now, Erik will continue to work towards a speedy recovery, and Trevor will return home for a couple weeks of down time. In the hope that Erik is ready to go, the pair will travel to Hyeres, France for training leading up the French Olympic Sailing Week in two weeks. We will certainly keep everyone updated in the meantime.

Thanks to the US Sailing Team AlphaGraphics, all of our supporting sponsors and product sponsors, and of course each and every one of our individual supporters who make this possible.
